Conifers provide a marvellous evergreen framework that can bring colour to the garden at all times of the year. New growth in the spring is always vibrant and exciting while the onset of winter offers a bronzing colour change to some conifers. There is a conifer for every situation, from the dwarfs, only growing a cm a year, through the medium, to the large specimens reaching heights of over 10 meters. Picea’s prefer a neutral to slightly acid soil where as Junipers and Taxus prefer neutral to alkaline soils. Most conifers can be lightly trimmed which should be done during the summer to allow for some re-growth before the autumn sets in.
